President's Update

OACA Members,

Greetings OACA members!! We have just finished the 2025 fall OACA conference at Hood River, Oregon. What a great conference! I love the chance to get to see the speakers, meet other OACA members, eat a bit more than I should with the excellent food choices, and just get some different scenery than my court. I have been to Hood River, but it has

been a few years. It was nice to visit again.

I want to recognize our sponsors. We had 13 vendors/sponsors that came for the fall conference. We had quite a few new vendors this time. Please stop by when you see them at the conferences, to say “hi”, and to see how they can help your court. They are in the business to make our work run smoother and more efficient. We appreciate them so much for their support of OACA. We al-so had the vendor drawings on Tuesday after class. Most have a prize for coming to see them. We had many prize winners this time, some were picked 3 times, and we had to call more names. We try to give a prize to as many members as we can, and you must be present to win. Our vendors just keep giving to the OACA membership. A big THANK YOU to them!!!

The fall conference is also when we have board elections, and board positions change. Our bylaws have us hold an annual business meeting and elections with the membership present. We typically hold this every fall conference. My news to you all is that I have stepped down as President and now will become the Immediate Past President. Our Education V.P. Jillian Viles is the new OACA President. You have already seen her as a presenter for some of our classes, and as the speaker for the Education Co V.P.’s and leading the education certification program. I have loved every bit of being involved in OACA and being on the board. I will still be there, but in a different role. I have been in OACA for 15 years and have not gotten even one of the certifications. My goal now is to get those 3 levels of certifications that I tell you all about. I will also be looking for new board members as the positions come up. We have Director positions for one year, and the Officer positions are two-year terms, those open every other year. If you have questions about be-ing on a committee or wanting to join the board, please email me anytime at: scarlilehop-per@beavertonoregon.gov.

I also want to thank the OACA board for all they do to bring these conferences to you. It is a lot of work, and they work their regular jobs too, but somehow still make conferences happen.

Have a great holiday season, and I look forward to seeing you in the Spring!!

Sue Carlile-Hopper

OACA President
