President's Update

OACA Members,

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. 2025 was a challenging year for me, both personally and professionally. I’m looking forward to the new opportunities that 2026 will bring.

Unfortunately, 2025 ended on a sad note for many of us. Darci Roberts, Lake Oswego Municipal Court Administrator and former OACA IT Vice President, passed away on December 28, 2025. Darci was very involved in OACA and was instrumental in updating OACA’s website to its current format. Please keep Darci’s family, friends, and the Lake Oswego Municipal Court in your thoughts and prayers.

Darci was one of my first contacts when I started with Hermiston Municipal Court in 2022. We connected through OACA, and she became a valuable resource to me, as my court had just implemented the same software her court used. That connection, along with the additional contacts I gained through her, truly saved my sanity during my first year as a Court Administrator.

At the past conference, an OACA member asked me what my vision was for OACA. It was a great question to ask someone running for President—but at the time, I didn’t have a good answer. I had many ideas, but I hadn’t yet thought about an overall vision.

I’m ready to answer that question now.

“Building Community. Practicing Responsible Stewardship. Sustaining Court Education.”

Building Community — I want to create more opportunities for connection among members beyond conferences. As I reflected this past week on how valuable Darci’s connection was to me, I want to ensure there are more opportunities like that for OACA members.

Sustaining Court Education — I am excited by how many OACA members worked toward their OACA certifications in 2025. I want to maintain that momentum and ensure we continue providing adequate educational opportunities.

Practicing Responsible Stewardship — This is the not-so-fun topic. For the past several years, OACA has been spending more money than we are bringing in. While we had substantial reserves, those are dwindling. The Board will face some difficult decisions this coming year to ensure that OACA is financially viable beyond 2026. Like all our organizations, OACA is experiencing rising costs.

The good news is that your OACA Board is a phenomenal group of people. I’m excited to see the ideas and growth that will come to OACA from this Board!

Wishing you the best for 2026!
